With nurses being in shortage, there is no better time to pursue an online nursing degree. There are many different choices available depending on the career level that interests one.

The first option is to receive a certificate or diploma. With all the people choosing to pursue being a nurse, this option is not the most popular, but is still a choice. This choice allows for the students to work in the local hospital while getting their diploma. While this takes up to three years, it does offer the option to receive an immediate job once their diploma is received. Most students can receive entry level jobs once the diploma is received. Some popular schools, like University of Phoenix and Kaplan University, both offer online nursing programs.

The most popular choice for many is the Associate's Degree. It can be earned in two years and opens many opportunities. All Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and some Registered Nurses (RN) have this degree. Many people use this as a stepping stone to purse their Bachelor's Degree, while others use it to pursue their career as a nurse.

Another popular choice for many is the four year degree, Bachelor of Science (BSN). Nurses that choose this degree will have better paying job options. This is a popular choice for many RNs to continue on with. This is just an additional two years of school after receiving an Associate's degree.

A more advanced option is the Master's of Science Degree. This is a more specialized degree for those that want to be a Nurse Practitioner. This has become a popular online option, as nurses can continue on at their own pace receiving the advanced degree.

Fifth is the Ph. D. Professionals that receive this degree are in shortage and are considered to be an elite group, which makes this group in high-demand. Nurses that have their Ph. D are sought after to do extensive research projects. This is the degree choice of more professionals that want to pursue an academic or administrative role.

Online nursing degrees have become the more popular choice for those that want to obtain a degree at their own pace. One can complete their degree while in the comfort of their own home. Nurses are in great demand. Choosing it as a career is an excellent choice that will pay for itself many times over.
