SIM Only Plans can designate a couple of options. One is the prepaid, or pay-as-you-go type plan. Others require a contract just as regular mobile phone services. However, with this option, you don't get a new phone, but just the card. You use your own phone.

Some people find that this arrangement of a contract without a phone is good for them. Usually, the monthly costs are lower. Since that is not always the case, however, be sure to check it out. Some people have a favorite handset that they want to keep, so don't want a new one. And, still others do not want the style the company offers for the free phone, so opt to buy their own separately.

Other reasons for choosing this no-contract plan is due to the lack of credit, or a bad credit history, and the desire to use a different phone for travel. If your credit is bad, you will be stuck with a huge down payment for a contract. With the no contract, you avoid that. For travelling, you can be stuck with high roaming charges with your own phone, especially if you go out of the country. With a prepaid phone, you will not have roaming, and will only pay for services used.

You can choose the features you want with either plan. These features range from full service that you would get with any plan, including text, data, internet, and calling minutes. You can get them individually, or get a combination of any of these. Some charge by the minute or megabytes of data usage, and some offer unlimited usage with the package bought.

You might wonder why use a prepaid or SIM only if you have good credit. There is always the possibility that things will change for you in the future so you don't want to get stuck in a contract situation. Too, you can't always anticipate the exact cost of the monthly contract, due to overages and such. If you have prepaid, you know exactly how much you will pay. You will not have extra charges at the end of the month like you can with a contract.

If you are travelling, you might choose one of these plans in order to not have to worry about losing you phone when travelling, or leaving it somewhere. You can stay in contact with those you need to, and not have to worry about leaving or losing it. It is also possible to limit the persons you will have contact with, so you can focus on your business at hand without having to screen calls to only family or business associates.

With a plan such as this, you can control how much either you or your family uses. It is a means of control where there is a possibility of no self-control. It is ideal for a college student who needs to be able to call home, but may not handle the amount of usage. The amount of usage is automatically controlled by the amount of usage paid for.

The different options offered with the SIM Only Plans means everyone can have what they want. If these features are something you could use you should look into it further. Make sure you are aware of features and what each costs, so you can compare. Choose the plan and options that give you the service you need while keeping costs to a minimum.
